EMPOWERED STORIES
from California’s Gold Country
coming to KVIE & PBS Stations
Sierra Gold will take viewers on an incredible journey of discovery into the rich history, fascinating locales, and amazing people in California’s Sierra Nevada region. This magazine-style program will feature a wide variety of segments capturing the enduring California spirit still evident in our foothill and mountain communities.
From the beginning of the Gold Rush in 1849, California experienced an influx of immigrants seeking a new life and a quick fortune in an untamed and beautiful new land. Each brought their own culture, their ideas, and hopes for the future to this new frontier, and all contributed to a new culture of positivity, entrepreneurship, and confidence that is uniquely Californian.
The show is produced and hosted by Wes Woodland, an award-winning storyteller and Auburn resident who has created more than two thousand hours of network and cable Television content, including the Dr. Phil show. He’s won numerous awards and has received three Emmy nominations.
Even today, the spirit and culture of California soars in the Sierra with its amazing people and their incredible stories. From female pioneers blazing trails in the ultra-running world and the Green Rush to lady gold miners striking pay dirt in the ancient river channels, episode one is entitled “Brave Women” because it highlights three amazing women of the Sierra.
The show is presented by KVIE which reaches 1.4 million households in the nation’s 20th largest television market. KVIE believes Sierra Gold will appeal to both local viewers and many other PBS stations across the U.S. and promises to be a fascinating and entertaining series, one that will make for outstanding television.
